SYSTEM POWER GENERATION
Solar power is the simplest and most cost effective way to reduce your electricity consumption. A typical Australian home consumes about 18 kilowatt-hours (kWh) each day, so a 2kW solar power system can offset about 40-55% of your average electricity consumption.
The table below shows the average daily generation of different size solar power systems:
|1.5 kW system||2.0 kW system||3.0 kW system||4.0 kW system||5.0 kW system|
|Adelaide||6.3 kWh||8.4 kWh||12.6 kWh||16.8 kWh||29.4 kWh|
|Alice Springs||7.5 kWh||10.0 kWh||15.0 kWh||20.0 kWh||35.0 kWh|
|Brisbane||6.3 kWh||8.4 kWh||12.6 kWh||16.8 kWh||29.4 kWh|
|Cairns||6.3 kWh||8.4 kWh||12.6 kWh||16.8 kWh||29.4 kWh|
|Canberra||6.45 kWh||8.6 kWh||12.9 kWh||17.2 kWh||29.7 kWh|
|Darwin||6.6 kWh||8.8 kWh||13.2 kWh||17.6 kWh||30.8 kWh|
|Hobart||5.25 kWh||7.0 kWh||10.5 kWh||14.0 kWh||24.5 kWh|
|Melbourne||5.4 kWh||7.2 kWh||10.8 kWh||14.4 kWh||25.2 kWh|
|Perth||6.6 kWh||8.8 kWh||13.2 kWh||17.6 kWh||30.8 kWh|
|Sydney||5.85 kWh||7.8 kWh||11.7 kWh||15.6 kWh||27.3 kWh|

Will a solar power system cover all of my bill?
This will depend on how much electricity you consume, what time of the day you consume most of your electricity, where you live and what size solar power system you install. A solar power system can be easily tailored to suit your needs.
Will I still need to be connected to the grid?
Yes, you will still need electricity from the grid. A solar power system will only generate electricity throughout the day as it generates electricity from sunlight, so you will still need electricity at night time or when you are consuming higher levels of electricity than what your system is generating.
Will I need batteries for my system?
Because the solar power system is connected directly to the grid, there is no need for batteries. The cost of a battery backup system is usually quite high. However, in some circumstances where you do not have access to power lines, a battery backup (off-grid) solar power system may be needed.
How much will this reduce my carbon emissions?
Solar power generates no harmful carbon emissions or gashouse gases making clean electricity directly from the sun. This will help you offset or possibly eliminate your carbon emissons.
For every unit of electricity (kilowatt-hour) you purchase from coal-fired power plants, over 1kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) is released into the atmosphere from burning coal, increasing the greenhouse gas effect and contributing to global warming.
By installing a solar power system you can create a cleaner, healthier environment for you and your children’s future.
How long will it take to pay itself back?
A solar power system can pay itself back in as little as 2¼ years if all the generated electricity is used but this varies depending on which state you live. Solar power generates much higher returns than any bank can offer and is more stable than investing in shares with a return on your investment of up to 48%.
